Ponce, a major cosmopolitan hub in the southern region of Puerto Rico, is less than a two-hour drive from San Juan, and is a rarely explored area of the island known as Porta Caribe.

An hour east of Ponce, bird-watchers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts can explore the great outdoors at Carite Forest Reserve — a 6,000-acre reserve with a dwarf forest.
